Tenino, The Stone City. Located as a bedroom community from Olympia, Tenino was known in its early history for being a trading post and a stop on the railroad line on the way to or from Portland. The "stone" city comes from the abundance of sandstone in a quarry. When concrete became the building material of choice, the quarries closed going into the great depression. A city park and the community quarry swimming pool are located on one of the sites.
